Built-in: do you even need an add-on?
Its UHD iGPU transcodes about 5 concurrent 4K streams (Plex/Jellyfin). It also runs Frigate detection via the iGPU (OpenVINO) - for most homelab use you don't need an add-on accelerator.
Estimates - curated and approximate; verify before buying.
Platform support
- Proxmox VE: supported - install: easy
Watch out
- NIC bug Intel I225/I226 NIC - some steppings report intermittent link drops; usually mitigated by a driver/firmware update or disabling EEE.
- Single NIC Single NIC - fine for a Proxmox node, but a dedicated OPNsense/pfSense router wants 2+ (or VLANs on a stick).
Add-on accelerators that fit this box
- Google Coral USB Accelerator - USB - fits any box with a spare port. (~5 Frigate cameras)
- Hailo Hailo-8L (M.2) - Uses a spare M.2 slot (a second NVMe or the Wi-Fi slot). (~16 Frigate cameras)
- Hailo Hailo-8 (M.2) - Uses a spare M.2 slot (a second NVMe or the Wi-Fi slot). (~31 Frigate cameras)
- Google M.2 Dual Edge TPU - Uses a spare M.2 slot (a second NVMe or the Wi-Fi slot). (~10 Frigate cameras)
- Google M.2 Accelerator A+E key - Uses a spare M.2 slot (a second NVMe or the Wi-Fi slot). (~5 Frigate cameras)
- Hailo Hailo-10H (M.2) - Uses a spare M.2 slot (a second NVMe or the Wi-Fi slot). (~48 Frigate cameras)
- Google M.2 Accelerator B+M key - Uses a spare M.2 slot (a second NVMe or the Wi-Fi slot). (~5 Frigate cameras)
A discrete GPU only fits boxes with a PCIe slot (and ≤75W); most mini PCs take a USB Coral or an M.2 Hailo instead.
